Commodus, 177-192. Denarius (Subaeratus, 18 mm, 2.53 g, 6 h), a contemporary plated imitation, irregular mint, after 194. L AEL AVREL COMM AVG P EL (sic!) Laureate head of Commodus to right. Rev. LIBERAL AVG COS Liberalitas standing front, head to left, holding counting-board in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left. Cf. BMC 347, Cohen 239 and RIC 255 (for obverse), and BMC 373 note, Cohen 287 and RIC 403 (for reverse). Breaks in plating, otherwise, good very fine.

This very interesting imitation mixes a late obverse of Commodus (RIC 255) with an early reverse of Septimius Severus from Emesa (RIC 403)
